October 9, 2019 – Software company Ubiterra today announced the company’s latest version of its geosteering module for ZoneVu, Ubiterra’s cloud app for drilling and geosteering wells. Company CEO Peter Flanagan said ZoneVu’s improvements come from production usage and customer testing during the first part of 2019 of the industry’s first cloud-native drilling and geosteering application.

Flanagan noted, “We have refined our browser-based geosteering user interface to the point where it is compares favorably to the best PC-based geosteering applications,” Flanagan said. “This validates our strategy of building ZoneVu as a cloud application, rather than as a conventional Windows PC-based application.”

“Basing ZoneVu on the latest cloud technology has also allowed us to build it from the ground up as a real-time application that fully leverages the drilling data telemetry from rigs, which customers love and saves them a bunch of manual labor”, he added.

Flanagan said that Ubiterra had developed ZoneVu as a multi-user data and drilling management tool with 3D visualization, but noted that clients were asking for geosteering capability. “Thanks to lots of input from customers and our team’s hard work, ZoneVu sets a new benchmark for drilling and geosteering productivity.”

Flanagan said Ubiterra intends to further strengthen its platform with added features to be announced in early 2020. “The technology in oil and gas is driving faster drilling speeds, and geoscientists on asset teams are having trouble keeping up. The cloud offers exciting possibilities for collaboration features to help with this problem.”
